Carle Clinical Research Imaging Program

Additional resources available through Carle Health

Beckman's Biomedical Imaging Center has a close relationship with Carle Health. They two partner on the Carle Illinois Advanced Imaging Center. Carle is also home to several MRI scanners that may serve as an additional resource for UIUC researchers.

An incomplete list of the magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy instrumentation at Carle Foundation Hospital:

Siemens 3 Tesla MAGNETOM Prisma-Fit Human MR Imager/Spectrometer

This 60 cm bore system has XR gradients capable of gradient strengths of up to 80 mT/m on all axes at a slew rate of 200 T/m/s. Available coils include a 1-channel transmit (Tx)/20-channel receive (Rx) head coil, 64-channel Rx head/neck coil, 32-channel Rx head coil, 32-channel Rx spine coil, 18-channel Rx body coil, 16-channel Rx hand/wrist coil, 16-channel Rx shoulder coil, 1-channel Tx/15-channel Rx Knee coil, 16-channel foot/ankle coil, and 4-channel large and small flex coils. A physiological monitoring system allows recording of ECG, pulse, and respiration signals and appropriate gating of image acquisition. This is a clinical system with research use allowed after hours.

Siemens 1.5T BIOMATRIX MAGNETOM Sola Human MR Imager/Spectrometer

Carle Health owns three systems in Urbana with a fourth in Danville, Illinois. These 70 cm/ wide bore systems have XQ gradients combine 45 mT/m peak amplitude with a slew rate of 200 T/m/s. The XQ gradients are designed for high performance and linearity to support clinical whole-body imaging at 1.5 Tesla. Available coils include a 16-channel Rx head/neck coil, 24-channel Rx BioMatrix spine coil with respiratory sensor, 12-channel Rx BioMatrix body coil, 36-channel Rx peripheral angiography coil, 4-channel large and small flex coils, and an endorectal Rx coil. An inbuilt BioMatrix technology on the patient table and physiological monitoring systems allow recording of ECG, pulse, and respiration signals and appropriate gating of image acquisition. This is a clinical system with research use allowed after hours.

Siemens 3 Tesla BIOMATRIX MAGNETOM Vida Human MR Imager/Spectrometer

This is a 70 cm/wide-bore system with XT gradients combining 60 mT/m peak amplitude with a slew rate of 200 T/m/s. The XT gradients are designed for high performance and linearity to support clinical whole-body imaging at 3 Tesla. Available coils include a 20-channel Rx BioMatrix head/neck coil, 32-channel Rx BioMatrix Spine coil with respiratory sensors, 18-channel Rx body coil, and 4-channel Rx large and small Flex coils. An inbuilt BioMatrix technology on the patient table and physiological monitoring systems allow recording of ECG, pulse, and respiration signals and appropriate gating of image acquisition. This is a clinical system with research use allowed after hours.
